The Countdown is On

Well, its Christmas Eve and things are pretty much ready to go. I've spent the day packing my first two weeks worth of gear into my trusty old Torre, and charged around town doing last minute errands and jobs.

I picked up my mountain radio just in the nick of time, as Martin and Fiona Balch were just about to head up to Auckland for a holiday! That could have been a tad embarrassing!

My pack is filled to overflowing, but the weight doesn't seem too bad. I'm wondering if I've overdone it with the food, but only time will tell.

I leave Dunedin early on 27 December, and should be in Collingwood a bit earlier than I originally thought, so I may be starting on the 29th or 30th of December instead of the 31st.

Wish me luck!

Aaron

Yo, are we there yet? C'mon, I could have driven there in Aaron's Honda Odyssey by now!

I'll keep an eye on your progress mate and see if there's any hope of synching with you through the Gardens. That'd be a buzz.

Hey aaron,

Good on you. I did a leg of this trip myself this summer. Started at lake rotoroa and went up the d'urville and over david saddle into the matakitaki. Came back over into ada pass & exited via the st james walkway. Took about 4 1/2 days (could be shortened by a day by getting a water taxi across lake rotoroa - prick of a walk). Great trip! Looking forward to hearing about your next leg as this is next on the list for me! Good luck.

Regards, Brett

ps. i'm going to be in dunedin this year so if your giving a talk or keen to catch up at some stage then let me know!

pps. must have been quite a similar time as I meet the french canadian girl you saw near the Morrison footbridge at 7pm at upper deception hut around 1-2pm. She didn't really look like she knew what she was doing, or that it was bit out of her league. Thankfully I ran into her again a few days latter in franz joseph and she was fine, all be it with a slight cut on her head!
